Travel in Province and Spain in OCT

Isn't October particularly problematic because of the harvest? Or is harvest usually over by then in those Southern climes?

Harvest in the Southern Rhone typically begins in late September and continues through early October. A cool summer, such as in 2013, could lead to a later harvest, starting in early October in continuing through the third week or so. So, yes, the date could also be problematic.
