While exploring the wilds of New Jersey recently, I stumbled upon a Loire sweetie I hadn't tried yet.
1997 Chteau de la Guimonire- Coteaux du Layon- Chaume
Deep yellow in color with a rather light and high-toned nose of pineapple, acacia and botrytis. Sweet on the palate, but it lacks richness and complexity. Pleasant if unexciting pineapple, quince, floral and honey flavors with decent acidity. Seems like a stripped down version of something Ive come to expect from this region during a great year. Still, not bad for $20 per .500 ml. B+.
