'04 Mungeret Gibourg NSG Chaignots, at least based on last nigt's bottle at the super terrific Davenport in PDX, is fully open for business. Utterly beautiful. Graceful and supple, clean forest floor and black currents with a touch of blood/iron. Velvety in the mouth without weight. A joy to smell and even better to drink. But don't tell anyone. Tell them the '04s are all crap and if they own any, they should be sold immediately. Encourage them that they should feel lucky if they get ten cents on the dollar.

Kurt has a great list. The restaurant is worth a trip. But that wine is gone. Last bottle. Apparently Dominique Lafon ordered the second to last one last week (with Jon Rimmerman).

no kidding! my inventory shows one bottle of this - whether it actually exists remains to be seen, but if it does we should have it together, since you have a great point of reference now.

So far this year I've opened a beautiful 2004 Truchot Charmes Chambertin VV and a very nice 2004 Drouhin Bonnes Mares.

On the other hand a 2004 Jadot 'Ursules' was undrinkably green.

Echoing Jay, that Truchot really was a stunning wine. Just a very faint herbal/pine cone like note in the aromatics, but no other real green character.

I think even I've liked the '04 Truchot.

2004 Gouges Clos des Porrets last month - resolved, not too complex but lovely

By most accounts, the Jadot Beaune Clos des Ursules 1er Cru '04 was not up to the standards of other vintages of this usually reliable bottling. Moreover, the 2004 has a reputation of bottle variability.

I have often enjoyed the Ursules bottlings, but I can't recall having the 2004. So I decided to see what Allen Meadows said about it...

An expressive nose of serious, pure and layered aromas feature pungent earth and a pretty mix of red and black fruit notes that give way to rich, full and reasonably concentrated middle weight flavors that offer reasonably good complexity and are underpinned by a firm but not aggressive finish. The overall impression is rather somber and while this is a solid effort, it is perhaps less distinguished than usual.

A rather mixed review!

. . . . Pete
