What's happening with Chablis?

Is it still being premoxed? Is it good? What vintages? How old is too old if you fear premox? DO TELL!

As far as I know there is still widespread fear of p'ox for Chablis. I tend to have good luck with them but I wouldn't buy anything older than 2010 at this point. I've drunk up all my stocks except for two bottles of 2005 (and I should have drunk them already, to be safe).

bill-
thrilled for you, but this is surprising to hear, things have *not* been fine with white burgs 2004 and up, generally speaking; do they taste like more sulfur is used?

i am quite happy with duplessis these days, but have not tasted anything older than 2010

For a while Duplessis had very spotty distribution but now available in the New York market. Excellent bargain compared to Dauvissat or Raveneau.

The last 07 Montmain and 04 Clos I had from Duplessis were in perfect shape, but I'm the importer so probably full of shit.

Thanks for bringing them in. I was very glad to see them available again. A magnum of the '97 Les Clos lingers on the memory.

I'll open one this weekend and check. I opened a dauvissat 05 Chablis about a month ago and it was in good shape but I really didn't pay a lot of attention to it.

I've become embroiled in a torrid romance with Bernard Defaix Lechet recently, plus I've developed a soft spot for Picq village and 1ers. Louis Michel 07 Butteaux vv the other night was fine. Jury's out on Bessin and Moreau.

Nowadays I'm having more p'ox difficulty with Huet than Chablis.

Servin tasting tomorrow, btw, at Weygandt's in D.C. Just sayin'.

In the past three years I've had:
--decent to good 04s, 08s and 09s from Fevre, some 08s were very subdued/closed.
--very good to slightly tired 04s from Brocard, good 08s.
--pretty good to superb 08s and 09s from Christian and Louis Moreau.
--dying 06 from J Moreau
--sound but unexciting 09 from Testut.
--plenty of sound to excellent 2010s from various producers.

I had bad premox issues with Servin. Mostly 07s. All bought at the DC shop.

Impressed with B Defaix, Bessin and Moreau at Grands Jours last year, but all eclipsed by the Duplessis 11/12 show. But I am *not* the importer, so probably I am full of shit.

I'll second Cory's assessment of '07 Montmain. I opened a bottle several months ago and it felt like I was committing infanticide. Fortunately, Arlequin Wine had a few bottles left so I was able to replace it.

Last October, I drank a series of Fevre 1er and Grand Cru from '02-09. No premox in any of those.

Only recent Chablis I've drunk was '10 Chablis AC from Duplessis. It was terrific and drank way better than it's mere village appelation.

I'll also second Cory's assessment of himself.

2005 Tribut Chablis was in good shape last night. I didn't detect any sulphur on the nose or palate. Not a great wine by any stretch but a nice match with grilled tuna. These used to be under $20 a bottle. I'm near the end of my stash.
