In my ongoing quest to promote Riesling consumption chez nous, last night opened a bottle of 2002 Trimbach CFE with some ersatz choucroute garnie (had some locally produced twice smoked ham and smoked andouille and also some tasty sauerkraut, all of which needed near-term consumption). Wow, citrusy and mineral-laden with a lovely sense of freshness and just a hint of petrol character that was easily subsumed by the food. My first CFE experience certainly didn't disappoint and Jean, ever leery of a white wine more than 6 months old, uttered not a word of concern about this 13-year old example. Apropos of Brad K's recent comment, this was a fuller and more fruit-forward dry Riesling than most of what we've tried from Germany and Austria, but we've still got a few Swabian examples to work through before I can make any sort of meaningful comparison.
