When the trocken is rockin' don't bother knockin'

2008 vollenweider wolfer goldgrube riesling kabinett 11.5% ABV

I was not happy when my wife drained our shared glass and looked at me and said "Was that the last of it?" Sadly, it was. The wine caused a lovely cognitive dissonance. The nose and mouth feel said off dry but dry and lovely it was.

Sadly, I don't have much vollenweider left in my cellar, and I don't see it anymore in stores in the Bay Area. The ones I have were brought in by Bill Mayer.

Anyone going to the 7% tasting on Wednesday?

Best,

Brad

To the best of my knowledge, Bill no longer has the back inventory. He is currently working with the Schindlers of Wine Monger. They are bringing in several of the estates that he used to represent. I've always enjoyed his selections.

Brad

Daniel Vollendweider himself used to keep a pretty solid stock of back vintages at his cave/for sale on his website.

That may or may not be relevant to you in CA, but if the opportunity arises...

I have a fair bit of 2001-5 (no '03) from Vollenweider. Old Vine Imports (Bob Collins) used to bring in his wines into CA through the '06 vintage. Bob is pretty much retired and Old Vine is no more. I was acquainted with Bob during that time and got the wines for good prices.

I'll be at the trade portion of the 7% Solution tasting tomorrow.

just to be clear - I don't believe this was a trocken since in 2008 the Goldgrube wines were "fruchtig".

There was indeed a Goldgrube kabinett trocken in 2008. AP: 08 09, 11,5% alc.

There was also the fruity Goldgrube kabinett. AP: 01 09, 7% alc.
