CWD: Texier Côte Rôtie

After Keith's note on the 2012 Texier Côte Rôtie the other day, I got really curious about the 2006. I opened it about an hour before dinner (no, Eric, I did not decant it). I really enjoy watching how my GF reacts to wines I share with her. She has plenty of experience drinking fine wines, but many of the wines I open are new to her. She immediately did a double take on tasting this. I said, "I know, the texture, right?" and I think that is the really huge thing about Texier 2.5.4 the texture of the wines starting around 2006 (or at least that's when I really noticed it which could be because 2005 was such an intense vintage). It's got all the flavors you want from Côte Rôtie, although definitely more on the sauvage, masculine end of the spectrum. The nose wasn't explosive, but it was deep and layered with fruit and savory notes. Really, really good wine that is worth checking in on now if you have multiple bottles. If you have only one or two, I'd wait ~3 years for the first and then go from there. And BTW, 750mL is not enough. I'm starting to really agree with Radikon that 1L is the correct amount for 2 people.

Nathan, You'll probably change your mind as you get older.

anyone still have a bottle of 04 C-R?
one of the most memorable wines from barrel ever, anywhere.

I had an opportunity to taste 11/12 C-R side by side. There is, of course, no such thing as terroir.

Yeah, at that point the 3 liter box will be more appropriate.

Still have some '01 that I need to find in the locker. In monkey years it's probably cracking up by now.

Sasha, next time you're in the Bay Area, I've got one you can share with Cory, Slaton, and me.

I have been slowly drinking the 00 over some years. Supposedly an off vintage, it hits the spot every time. Likewise the 00 Hermitage.

I had a 2000 last fall that I thought was great. Eric was there, maybe he'll chime in to tell me I'm doing it wrong.

That's cool. Can you give us a report?

Zilbergerg didn't like the 00 too much not long ago! Maybe NC is a better lattitude for aging 00s.
04 from 750ml is my favorite of all my CR right now.
But 08 from magnum is just so pretty. We did one with Tom Lubbe not long ago. Perfect size for 2 at 10.8% Alc.

12 is entering the typical weird phase of Cote Blonde CR here in Charnay, though I had a fantastic bottle in London last week, along with 12 Brezeme Pergaud serine.

Merci Nathan for stopping Mollydooker shake and sextuple decanting on my poor little wines. I'll try 06 tonite.

Or Zybledouche is a fucking moron.

Wish I still had some 08 St. Joseph!

My bottle last night was also very weird and petulant. A couple of hints at greatness, but ultimately puzzling. I have 1/5th of the bottle in the fridge, will try later.

I Audouze them for 14 days.

IIRC, that was from the dregs of a bottle I poured for my blind tasting group last year at a restaurant in NYC. Zylberberg happened to be at a different table, and came by after we left to try/trash the leftovers.

I recall everyone at my table enjoyed the wine a great deal. Surprisingly, nobody thought it sucked when I poured it blind.

You have to chase the shape of the '12 in the glass, while it's certainly within reach.

You have to escape from the shape of the '11 right now. The iron curtain.

You drank 12 bottles of Perguad Serine in one sitting?!? Respect! :)

Couldn't say. The bottle I took to cole's a couple of weeks ago was corked. :(
