What would you drink if you were Kirk Wallace and it was your birthday today?

Happy Birthday, Kirk! I don't know your tastes (eek, wrote testes first) but I'll pop open something tasty in your honor.

'99 Clos des Goisses. I don't know Kirk, and happy birthday to him. But that is my standard answer for each and every "what would you..." question.

Given the Knoll dinner on Saturday, the Alzinger dinner on Monday and Gonon last night, I think it will be a very low key eve, but i do have my eye, along the line Steve was thinking, on a L'Angelore Tavel. But I am enjoying '09 Beaux Regards (Bereche) right now as i do laundry for our upcoming trip to Berlin and Copenhagen. (I may save the serious drinking for Copenhagen.)

Nice choice! You're probably busy, but I think we'd all like to hear about the Gonon. I went to the one last year at Le Restaurant, the defunct downstairs of All Good Things, and it left something to be desired; it was more likely a restaurant and other issue than the wines, but I'm shocked to have almost no memory of the evening. Maybe the wines were all quite young?

Happy birthday, Kirk.

I'll go with Tristan's suggestion. A recent bottle of the '98 was too young still but hinting at greatness.

How is '09 Beaux Regards showing?

I think it is really nice for an '09. i like riper wines than some (many), so YMMV, but it has nice cut and length to go with its yellow fruit flavor. Nice touch of minerality.
