CWD: 2004 Baudry Croix Boissée

Bam! This wine seems to be finally coming into its own. For my palate, at or near optimum drinking, although it should hold here for a good long while. There is still structure, but the overbearing qualities it showed intermittently in youth have smoothed over. Decanted for about 45 minutes before dinner it showed the tobacco and smoke nuances along with dried red fruits and mineral elements. A mushroomy kind of sous-bois also weaved in and out. Carried itself with a real sense of breed. I have 6 or so more bottles and I think one a year for the next five years and then I'll save the last for 10 years out.

Thoughts on 2005?
Best, Jim

Last bottle I had was great. The 2005 hasn't been the problem child that the 2004 has been in terms of evolving in a non-monotonic way. It's been pretty steady and predictable, but definitely large scaled for Croix Boissée. The 2006 has also been up and down, but the last bottle I had was great too. If you have a few 2005, go for it.

Nice note! Wish I still had some.

I do have one '04 Grezeaux remaining, have you opened one recently?

Oh, is this the thread where one asks any questions one has about how certain vintages of Baudry are drinking? If so, I am curious about 05 Grezeaux and 07 Croix Boissee.

I have to check, but I don't think I've had 2007 Croix Boissée in a while.

I think I posted on 2005 Grézeaux semi-recently. From memory, it was showing really well with the tannins integrating. I'd certainly start drinking them at a rate depending on your supply, but there is no rush.

A bottle of 2010 Domaine last night was good, but not the best bottle I've had of this recently. I've been drinking quite a bit because I had 2 corked bottles in a row so I wanted to see what was going on. Two other bottles have been great. The one last night was a little poopy on the nose, but the palate was fruit, minerals, tobacco, the typical stuff. In a decent spot, but no rush on this.

stunning 07 grezeaux last night, monkey, or as good as i remember it.

drink now or sometime over the next N years, where N is a real number specified by Jeff Connell

Ha, of course I had the 2003 CB last night with Sophie. It was great. I think it is coming into its own (but truth be told, I've always liked this wine at every stage) but will surely hold, if not improve, for t = 5 - 10.

This is appreciated. I have been periodically pulling one of these, looking at it and then putting it back.
