Surprising finds at Whole Foods

Every summer my family and I spend a week in Santa Monica, and I make a point to hit up shops such as Domaine LA and Silverlake Wine. Today we went to the Whole Foods in Venice at Lincoln and Rose for provisions and I was very surprised to find wines from Scholium Project, Tatomer, Farmers Jane, Ovum, Wind Gap, G.D. Vajra and Teutonic. They also had, as many CA Whole Foods do, a selection from Beaune Imports and KLWM. No other Whole Foods I'd been in had anything quite like this. I wanted to keep looking around but my ten and a half year old was embarrassed by my loud "Wows!" as I walked around the aisles.

On another note, we had a terribly off bottle of 2013 Overnoy-Crinquand Ploussard. Anyone else encountered off bottles of this wine?

Best,

Brad

Five years ago Jim Hanlon noticed that a sizable stash of 2004 Clos Rougeard wines were sitting on the shelf at Whole Foods in Oakland at very ordinary prices. I believe the full range of reds was present - Clos at $30 or so, Poyeux in the low to mid 40s, Le Bourg at $55.

The wines were not as rare then as they are today, but they were definitely heading there.

I bought, but not as much as I should have. Hindsight, and all that.
