Announcement for pleasure haters

You will be glad to know that Mas de Gourgonnier have dealt with their long standing brett problem, much to my delight. Not that anyone else on this site will care, except for maybe Jonathan.

problem? will they ever be the same? they wuz what they wuz. and i sought them out.

i have always loved wines with non-fruit flavours. bell pepper. horse sweat. saddle leather. tapanade. grilled meat. pencil shavings. rose petal. pipe tobacco. sea breeze. chicken stock.

at least we don't demand that cheeses only taste and smell of the milk of origin.

So all this talk about undrinkable modern Bordeaux is really all about the passing of '83 L'Evangile.

I have been drinking Gourgonnier for over 30 years. In fact Gourgonnier was my first wine emotion I think.
The first bretty bottle I had was in NY 15 year ago. Never had a spoiled bottle before... Bad shipping or storage?

This wine is the wine I would bring on a desert island for sure. Joyful, low alcohol compare to its neighbours, fantastic viticulture.

I think their sans soufre cuvée has been one of the very first post modern sans soufre wine I was exposed to, back in the early '80s. Before Overnoy or Lapierre even tried to make no sulfur wines.

Unbelievable they are not part of the picture of the natural wine movement. They have done so much more for a clean sustainable agriculture and for terroir driven simply made wines than most of the cool kids!!!

One of the first wines to make me go wow. Usually drink a few bottles each year, can't remember it ever being overly bretty.

I've only been drinking it since the mid-90s, but always a great pleasure for a very reasonable price. Tasty, full-flavored and delicious. And I've got a high tolerance for brett, I'll say, but the light horsiness that came with some bottles always struck me as a positive.

Brett problem? You crazy, BJ. Those wines have always been the essence of Provence to me. We drink a ton of it.
