I hope Cathy Corison is still reading us.

Funny, I have always tried to be very circumspect on Delectable, specifically not wanting to be perceived as a critic.

Thanks for the reply, Cathy. To be perfectly clear, I'm not suggesting that, as a winemaker, you should not use Delectable. On the contrary, it would be nice to see more winemakers on there.

So many people are jockeying for attention on these social media platforms and you have it, whether you want it or not. I really only follow close friends and customers on that app yet I somehow still keep coming across your ratings. You'll see I actually tried to initiate this discussion a couple of years ago by commenting on your note about the 2011 Granier Les Vignes Oubliees and the brett component.

Does it matter that you called out Didier Barral's 2009 Jadis for being “sadly overrun” with brett, for instance? Considering your influence on the app, I believe it puts you in the role of a critic even if that was not your intention. It seems I'm in the minority here, though. And that's cool. What else are wine boards for? At least you're not racist.

It's a fine line. If I sanitize my comments too much they become meaningless. Even though I like Brett., it can overrun a wine. Looking back at that comment, it was more than two years ago and my rating did dip down, barely, into the 7's. Back in those days I was trying to work out my relationship with Delectable. Precisely because of the danger of being considered a critic, I started making notes like that private as I mentioned in a previous post.

Suzie Sunshine going forward!

Hey, I like durian/jackfruit.

Next time you're in SF, you should get some durian gelato at Marco Polo in the Outer Sunset district.

In my experience ice cream and shakes are the best way to go with durian.

Yet it carries the weight of her reputation/celebrity.

That's why I don't read Jane Austen or Dostoevsky. Vladimir Nabokov told me not to.

...

Also, why do people keep opening Riesling around me?

Don't read Nabokov.

Kirk?
I have it on good authority that Nabokov loved Riesling. And, eventually, Sharon will too.

You can slake your thirst for durian shakes at New Dong Khanh in Boston's Chinatown if that's your thing (it's not mine, but Trung and several others swear by them).
I think Trung brought a shake to our dinner at Peach Farm. I had a sip but there was so much wine....

I appreciate Cathy's thoughtful approach to posting notes. Welcome (back?) Cathy to the best little corner 'o the wine internet!

Much to my surprise, and I don't have anything like Cathy's following, I've run afoul of some readers over the years on my vanity site. Mostly people who grossly misinterpret things I've written about wines I've tried, even experiences working in wineries.

One time a local winery called me to question something I wrote, but posed as a freelance writer for the Wine Advocate (!!) and fumbled through obviously leading questions that helped me understand what was really going on. Weird.

It's enough to make me not want to write. Or maybe try to be Suzie Sunshine! I've never really resolved it, so I write sporadically and proverbially duck anytime I think I might possibly have written something someone's going to take issue with. Sigh.

I don't use delectable.

I have visited J-B and work with him. Never, ever tasted brett in the cellar nor in bottles we shipped. I think the Syrah before blending was one of the purest expressions I've had the good fortune to experience.

We are also starting to work with Cathy, which I also count as a blessing.

To my continued surprise The Viet Nam Restaurant in Spring Valley, NY makes a very good Durian Shake. We'll occasionally stop there after visiting my parents' graves.
