I thought that I had finished all of these off, but found a couple bottles in a box that was supposed to contain 2010s. What a nice surprise! The wine is fully resolved, but not without shape. Dark earth, game and herbs with dried red and black fruits. Minerals on the nose and the finish. Really a lovely bottle, certainly among the best I've had from this vintage. I'm not sure these words are truly doing it justice. Drink one now if you have any left.

Wow, two 05 Domaine sightings in one week.
I missed the occasion through a set of unfortunate circumstances, but Mr. Lurker reports an equally thrilling bottle, albeit (unsurprisingly) not as resolved as the note here indicates.
Mostly recently, the '07 was a tad unresolved, while the '06 perfect. To tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track of my Baudry vintage chart.

The 2006 was delicious young and I gleefully killed off all of those as well as the 2004s before setting in on 2005.
I thought I drank all of the 2005s as well because I was trying not to drink 2009/2010 (didn't buy 2007/8 for some reason, odd for me).
Why is it not a surprise that the bottle is not as resolved?

Also, as much as I love everything Baudry's been doing lately, I don't think I've seen another 2005 in the making. Not exactly old-fashioned tannins on account of rusticity, but definitely on account of sheer power. I actually found '05 Domaine kinda intimidating on release, although never out of balance.

Hasn't the source of the grapes for the cuvee domaine shifted over the years? I forget exactly how, but perhaps that is why there is not another 2005 in the making.

I seem to recall that, too, but this is what I found on the LDM site (from 2013): "As of 2005, the vast majority of the Baudry wines are fermented in large concrete tanks. Granges and Domaine are fermented and aged in concrete, Guillot and Grézeaux are fermented in concrete and aged in barrel a year and Croix Boissé is fermented and aged in barrel. Matthieu explained that concrete gives them the ability to let the wine spend extended time in an vessel that avoids the need for constant rackings, sulfuring and manipulation. "When you don't add yeasts or filter, you need to bottle as late as possible."
