Hello
Last friday, we made a very nice dinner with 6 north rhone 1998 & 2004 (Bernard Faurie, Jamet, Colombier, Stéphane Ogier, Bernard Burgaud...). See our new website available on every screen (desktop, tablet or smartphone) :
www.tgjp.com.
Ask any questions on the forum and I will try to answer.
Best regards

Sad about the '98 Faurie. And I am surprised to read such a good review of Colombier - I thought he pushed a fruity style of wine and not so much to lay down?

And Le Bon Tyran absent?

The domaine du Colombier is well-known for his Crozes-Hermitage (cuvé Gaby ?) : "a fruity style and not to lay down".

But at the TGJP, the Bon Tyran forbbid the lesser AOC of the north rhone. He demand Hermitage or Cote-Rotie or nothing (Saint-Joseph are "just" tolerated). Our Domaine du Colombier was an Hermitage cuvée (very small production not on the best plots for red - Dionnières).

Unfortunaly, Le Bon Tyran can't stayed every time in Paris but he is every time in our spirit.

I don't know Columbier, but after Ogier, I imagine anything not drowning in oak would be refreshing.

I think that Stéphane Ogier became to run the estate around 96/97. 98 was one of his first vintage. The regular cuvee 1999, 2000 & 2001 are also a mix of not-too-much-meat-on-the bones + too-much-oaked. I stopped with the 2001. The estate is not at the marché d'Ampuis (he organize a special event not too far).

Le Bon Tyran appreiates your thinking of him but he must attend to matters outside of Paris from time to time.

Well, they can't be very important matters if they transpire outside Paris, but I'll take your word for it.

True, but the good works of the porte-gourdin ensure that all will be well in Paris in his absence.

Surprised you didn't like the Burgaud. Yes, it's rather rough and unpolished, but it speaks true of Northern Rhone syrah.

I dont't agree. It's speak true of a middle-of-the-road Nothern Rhone syrah. An 1990' wine (half-boddies, under-matured, some not nice wood). Unfortunaly, there is a lot of other Cote Rotie like this. Almost 95%.
A Jamet, a gonon, a Thierry Allemand, a Chave or a Faurie, speak true...
