Where do y'all like to eat in new orleans?

I was underwhelmed by the grilled oysters at Dino's, but maybe there are better ones. But don't miss couchon, peche and Herbsaint. Le petit bistrot also very good. Commander's palace is shockingly good. We hated August,but others have had better experiences.
 
Oysters: Felix' not far off Canal and Bourbon. The rest of the menu is forgettable. Also Drago's for charbroiled in one of the big hotels near the river and canal. I can never remember which.

I like the old fashioned places in New Orleans -- Galatoire's, Commander's Palace, Arnaud's, etc.

Outside of the Quarter, but conveniently on the St. Charles streetcar line: Herbsaint. Very nice people, very good food, very wine friendly. List isn't terribly long, but I spotted four or five gems.

Peche was recommended, but I only found it so-so.

I had lunch at Cochon, liked it. Service was over-whelmed, but they coped and the food was tasty.
 
Tristan's got it right and I am wrong. Drago. Not Dino. In any event, I'd say pass. If you search on here you'll see both Jay's notes and mine. There are other good tidbits.

I have heard that the non-hotel Drago location is better, never been. Mostly because I find it hard to believe charbroiled oysters would vary much.

I won't bother advising to avoid Acme -- sensible types see the line and cross the street to Felix'.
 
My friend's son recommends Casimentos for grilled oysters. I have dined at cochon and liked it less than i expected.
 
Commanders for lunch has 25 cent martinis (maximum of three!) and good, reasonably priced two and three course meals. But I haven't had grilled oysters there.
 
I know Acme has expanded its concept. Is it no longer as good as it once was?

A venue I've always liked is the Bon Ton Cafe located in the business district.

Commander's Palace has a ridiculous winelist, especially if you're able to ingratiate yourself and see the off list stuff. It's also great and really not to be missed. Cochon is excellent, the best meal we had was Herbsaint by,and again they have a great list. If you want something out of the way and kind of locals only, go over to Clancy's for lunch, and then walk it off in Audobon park.
 
If you got to August you have to get the Gulf Grouper "Courtbouillon" and the banana pudding.

They have (or at least had when I was there) LDM Muscadets on the wine list.

Agree on Herbsaint, one of our other favorites.

+1. Was there just this past Friday evening for the first time and it was amazing. Pepiere La Pepie Cot among other great wines. Baudry Les Grezeaux for $37.

The list at Herbsaint had the only non-Rougeard bottling of Les Poyeux I have ever seen stateside.
