Winery practice

Perhaps this is out of line, but I am curious to know if the folks on this board get at all anxious about having a beer or two at the winery? I have spent countless hours on the usual production chores (crush, pigeage, racking, bottling), and I would love to have a beer with the crew at the end of the day. Other members of the staff are concerned about legal issues. Has anyone here ever encountered enforcement pressure from state or federal authorities from having beer on the premises of a working winery?

Are these other members of the staff attorneys? Or perhaps former ATF agents? What is the basis of their concern?

Admonishments from the MLCC staffer who issued us our license. I have never encountered as single licensee who has been cited on this by the feds or a state agency, and I have had many beers (not those produced there) at other wineries and breweries.

If you're really anxious try some of these.

I used to have one that said "Mountain Dow" with the same design as the real can. We thought we were pretty cool riding our ten speeds around the neighborhood while drinking crappy beer.

I remember a couple of years ago, I was having a quick lunch in the dining section of Whole Foods, and had bought a (hard) cider, which I was drinking with it. An employee came up to me and said, "You are not allowed to drink beer here!" I said, taken off guard and just knee-jerk factually, "It's not beer, it's cider."

The employee said, "Oh, apple cider? OK," and left.

Doubt that would work on law enforcement, though.
