That's an exaggerated menu! How is one supposed to appreciate the luxury of truffle (or foie gras or bufala or...) if one has them heaped upon each other like this?

Anyway, which wines did you mix together?

If a person had been there and believed this was an exaggerated menu then that person was SURELY a minority of one among discerning patrons. Every single member of the culinary team has thousands of years of experience layering luxury upon other luxuries. Indeed, the chef himself is said to have descended from the historical union of a Mulard duck and an Apulian dairy cow.

The exaggeration here is in the knocking of all things Pete. The menu may be too much of a muchness but I'll bet the Pousse d'Or Volnay (unless Pousse d'Or has gone and changed on me since I last tasted it) and the Clape Cornas with their entries were quite nice, if the wines were a little young. I've only had La Tour Blanche a couple of times, but I've liked it as well.

Although I'm no fan of many of the wines Pete raves about, he gets the award for putting up with this bored being the worst kind of parody of itself.

Having recently visited the great facility (formerly a hotel, I'm told) that is Pousse d'Or, it was a pleasure to once again have the Volnay en Caillerets '06. It was light enough to pair okay with the Branzino, but I would have preferred a white wine...and I saved some of the Marcassin Chardonnay to reassure myself of this fact.

The Clape Cornas '05 was a delight, albeit being drunk 20+ years too soon. And, yes, the veal preparation measured up to the very large dimensions of the Clape.

The La Tour Blanche '01 might never be called a stem-winder, but it was quite pleasurable with the delicious dessert course.

The comedy aspect of the parody makes it all worthwhile.

A water buffalo, more likely. And contrary to what I may have understood, apparently either the Longobardi or the Arabs brought the buffaloes to Italy and not Attila or Genghis Khan.

Agreed. The mean girls reaction to just about everything Peter posts is one of the reasons I've severely limited my participation here and it's been going on for far too long. Truly bad form.

Can someone please point out what is parody here and what is not? #parody

Seriously, as someone who once took a long hiatus from this board because of tone, allow me to make a few observations. (I don't know if you remember, Brad, you actually sent me an email or message back then regarding the issue. You are consistent on this, at least.)

1) A significant portion of Pete's post topics are images of his monthly dinner menu. While I'm of the opinion that this board could use more images it seems that these menus, and subsequent low-light documents of plating, go against the spirit of this virtual hangout.
2) I'm certain that many of our wine choices are common with Pete's. But what Jonathan calls raving generally looks to me more like evidence that drinking and eating merely occurred.
3) Given the first two observations, the ribbing seems fairly good-natured. I recall a certain user always ejaculating about "teh boiling of the frogs!" that was far more hostile to other members, and with little consequence. Were you calling foul then?

I like this board. It's serious and fun and sometimes frustrating but easily filled with more smart and passionate people than one typically meets online. I just hope the search function improves one day.

Thanks for reading. Now I'm going to pour a splash of Evan Williams Single Barrel and watch banned wine adverts.

At least Pete comes to the prayer breakfasts for Bueker.

Is it OK if I ask if this is ironic? I don't mean to be snide.

Cry me a motherfucking river, Brad Kane. I have spent the past year lying in bed in deepest grief every day while three former friends of mine and good friends of my late partner have seen fit to bully me to my face and tell lies about me and my late partner behind my back.

If you think I give a rat's ass that you feel somehow less comfortable posting here because I and a few others make merry of Peter Creasey's posting style, you should check your head and your sense of privilege.

Preached to about "bad form" by Brad Kane. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha.

Kids, take it offline. Please.

Sharon, what other people may or may not be doing to you offline is irrelevant to what goes on on this board. Your behavior and everyone else that posts here is what matters and you and a small cadre here have been attacking Peter for several years now because you don't like the wine he drinks, the food he eats, the pictures he posts and because you find him intellectually inferior. Your goal has been to run him off the board because he's different from the norm here and that's bullying and reprehensible behavior and needs to stop. Ignore his and anyone else's posts that bother you and I say that to all.
