There are so many quality and interesting Italian wines out there these days, it's a good time to be a wine drinker.
Vigne Marina Coppi
2011 Fausto - Named after winemaker Francesco Bellocchio's grandfather, who apparently was seriously hot shit on the European cycling scene back in the 40s and 50s. 100% Timorasso, it's a huge wine smelling of crushed stone (as I imagine stones in Iceland might smell like) and dried flowers. After a day opened aromas soften and a bit of gasoline - petrol for those of you who live in Britain - sneaks out. Sappy white fruit and brine precede a finish that lasts until next Tuesday.
2011 Marine - Late harvest Favorita that's neither sweet nor soft. There is more than enough acid to balance out the chewy weight of this wine. Yellow fruits and then stones and then lime peels. Makes you crave a roast chicken dinner or a veranda overlooking the Apennine foothills.
2012 Sant’ Andrea - A blend of 90% Barbera and 10% Croatina. Stainless fermented and aged. This is about as pure and juicy as Barbera gets. Like a bucket of summer berries in a sun-drenched meadow. Argentinean disco wine.
