Fun with friends

Sorry, I've been away...

This was a fun night. It was great to see everyone, and also to meet a couple of folks I'd known online for years.

The '96 Ferrando Carema black label had a cork that was in bad shape, so I feared the worst, and initially it seemed flat and stewy. It came around with air and was OK, but didn't show the terroir or typicity I usually find in the white label. It also didn't show the kind of interesting development I get with even a few years of development w/ its sibling. I didn't expect to be one of those people, but if this is representative I'll stick with Etichetta Bianca.

The '04 Leroy Bourgogne Rouge was very light as expected, but quite foul for the first hour or so. It came around and was eventually quite complex and enjoyable, if still very green. I never tasted to me like Burgundy, more like a quite complex, very interesting Jura red.

The '09 Pepe was well-priced on the list and an enjoyable drink, but it seemed to reflect the vintage. I found it a little atypically oily-textured and low in acid.

The Rebholz muskrat was fun. Thanks Georg for sharing it!

I'm drawing a total blank on the trousseau. That's what I get for trying to write notes 3 months after a dinner.
