03 Desvignes Py

In 2003, we were in France, a little before the hard heat hit. The Mme was with a gal pal, and I joined them down south. We stayed in Cairanne, did a cool walk from Cairanne to Rasteau and hitched back, spent time in CNP, and I had one of my all time favorite walks at twilight through the passes around the Dentelles. A couple of weeks later, I walked from Chinon to Saumur, and then the Mme joined me and we biked on to Angers. It was a trip to remember. It was hot.

2003 is a year we probably all avoid wine wise, but I was curious about this one, and actually liked it. Total mutant wine, with almost no Beaujolais typicite, although Desvignes' Burgundian vinification steers in a different direction already. There was a core of pruniness and unripe (seeds or stems?), but it was wrapped in smokey sap and great vinosity, making it an enjoyable drink. Right on the edge of DNPIM but had enough appeal to keep coming back for more and figuring it out.

Absolutely, although my work schedule over Christmas and New Years looks awful.

Enjoying Thanksgiving completely off, and have to pay the piper.
