Dead Vatan wines

Opened 2 2007's. Like water. Bad Opened 2011. A bit better but not great. 07s were from Chelsea ventures. The 2011 was weygandt. WTF?????????????

Interesting. Within the last year or so, I opened two bottles of 2007 that I had a different issue with: they had a strange chemical taint. Sort of like bug spray, but worse. Undrinkable. Sourced from a reputable west coast retailer. Most recently, I opened another 2007 sourced from Weygandt, and it was very good (and ready to go in my opinion, unlike all subsequent vintages and some prior vintages).

I have never thought the 2011 was a great wine, but have not experienced any flawed bottles.

Had a corked 2002 not long ago. Fuck.

That certainly doesn't suck. The '88 was a tad more interesting last time I had them, but both were spectacular wines.

That's what came to my mind, too.

Yes, water is a good thing when describing Vatan because it expresses the weightless quality of his expression, and you're saying it's a bad thing?
I don't understand.

I don't know anything about premox with Vatan, but in both Burgundy and Alsace, watery and short tasting bottles constitute about 10% of my experience with premox. Just had once last night (a '96 white burg that I'd guess as a sound but a far simpler wine if served blind.)

I've never had a dead Vatan wine, but I also don't have any 2007s kicking around. My last bottle of 2005 was great and while I haven't had it in a while, the last 2011 I had was great.

Strange showing. I don't really know what to make of .sasha's assertion above. That hasn't been my experience, but I've been around long enough to listen.
