"Anonymous" ?

I'm also curious about the port: What is Ferreira doing here among illustrious domaines like Ch. Margaux? So many other shippers spring to mind ahead of them.

Oops, sorry, glad you asked! The anonymous wine was the Rotem Mounir Saouma Magis CNdP Blanc '11 .

I served it blind to this very knowledgeable group as I wanted to see: (i) what they thought about it; and (ii) what they thought it was.

Surprisingly, the majority found the Rhone make-up. The remainder thought it was a Burgundy.

Everyone absolutely loved the wine and it worked well with pepper and crab meat soup.

The Ferreira Porto '94 is a particular favorite of mine and held its own in distinguished company. Quite lush and smooth with all the right components in balance. Drinking beautifully now and went well with assorted mignardises cookies, several of which had some chocolate.

Oporto is the (English name for the) town, not the drink.
The English shippers use "Port" for the beverage while the Portuguese shippers use "Oporto". Marketing.

The Portuguese call the wine Porto, which is the name of the city, but since they always preface the word Porto with the indicative article "o" (as in The Florida Panhandle), the Brits thought the name was Oporto, and that stuck. But the Portuguese themselves never say Oporto (unless, of course, they are speaking English). The wine, however, only admits two possibilities: Porto in Portuguese and Port in English. To call the wine Oporto is wrong in all languages.

I think it looks like a lovely menu and i appreciate that the burgundy was (properly) served after the Margaux How was the Engel, btw?
