Ogier Cote Rotie '98 -- What a lovely wine, comfortably within its drinking window which will extend for years. No edges, good density, gout de terroir, impressive staying power, and pretty much everything anyone would want in a quality Cote Rotie. A deserved salute to the Ogiers!

Really nice with veal chop, bok choy/pearl onions, butternut squash/nuts.

Chris, I stopped buying it a few years after you. I really miss good well-priced Cote Roties as Cote Roties used to be one of my favorite wines to buy.

Yeah, those were the years when the price was jumping about $10 or $15 every year, IIRC. Finally just rose above my means. I miss decent affordable Côte-Rôtie too.

I miss both affordable Côte-Rôtie and affordable Hermitage and Cornas. I was buying Chave for $25, Verset for $7 and Clape for $8 back in those days. Oh well...

Yes, besides bumping the Cote Rotie prices every year, they also fell prey (in my view, at least) to a strategy of bumping the manipulation levels away from the heart of the fruit.

I did find the Jasmin Cote Rotie '11 for $40...better than most of the prices have been lately.

Ogier Cote-Rotie '02 -- Dark inky red, medium sediment, dark fruits and pepper aroma, meatiness, medium body, maybe a bit high-toned, light tannins, pleasing finish, should last well. Wish such well-priced, old-style Cote-Roties were still availabe. [E}

Paired with chicken fried steak, mashed cauliflower/potato, and green beans...then brownie and fresh strawberries.

Stephane Ogier La Combe de Malleval Condrieu '18 -- Light gold in color, sweet and flowery bouquet, abundant fruits and melon notes, rich/round/fat profile, light alcohol (13.5%), more acidity might improve the weight parameter. [VG-E]

A delicious accompaniment for cocoanut/sweet potato/shrimp dish...then chocolate chip and chocolate cookies.

Michel & Stephane Ogier Cote-Rotie '97 -- Medium red, dark fruits in attractive bouquet, firm texture, good tension, ample fruits to offset the acid, perhaps a bit attenuated, good staying power in glass, quite a pleasure. [E]

Served with roasted salmon and pork belly, taragon potatoes, and rebosero beans.
