Bait and switch in the cellar

Jeff asked to meet at the cellar but when I arrived it was Ira and Winton. I guess one middle aged Jewish guy from Brooklyn is much like another.

2010 Domaine Pascal Cotat (Pascal & Francis) Sancerre Chavignol Rosé - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre (1/9/2016)
One of the few truly ageworthy roses out there, this is still a baby but with an hour or so of air it opens up to an impressive minerally wine. Fantastic match with some 24 month Parmigiano Reggiano.

1996 Mongeard-Mugneret Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Orveaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru (1/9/2016)
Very 1996 in character, this benefited from every minute of air it got in the decanter and I'm sorry there were only 2 hours available. Lovely wine once the acidity calmed down a bit, very red fruited. I'll hold my other bottle for at least a few years. Spiciness needed over an hour to emerge. Served blind Burgundy and 1996 were both quickly guessed.

1999 Dominique Laurent Volnay 'Tallepieds'

Nicely rich and complex, not overoaked, a bit short on the finish but I think that's normal for a 1999 that's still a bit sleepy. I last had this at a tasting of DL wines on release at Tribeca Wine Merchants when I was happy to note that the wines were not the caricatures that some earlier vintages had been. It doesn't seem that long ago.

There were a few other wines I'm not recalling at the moment and one I'm actively trying to forget.

That is a fantastic wine.

Interesting about the Dominique Laurent, as well.... I haven't had a DL wine in nearly 10 years, I want to say. (Since back when I used to read Bettane.)
