With VLM and Stephanie at Rue Cler last night. Nice wines all.
Best, Jim

Jim, as always, a great pleasure to see you and Diane. Thanks of bringing those wines, I'd not had either before and enjoyed both.

Glad you liked the wine list. It's my wine manifesto.

Texier is 2012, I think.
And the wine list at Rue Cler was simply, the best chosen list I've ever seen.
Matches the food.
Best, Jim

Nice work. I've always been afraid of the young Texier Cote Roties. Apparently I was misguided.

Eric said this particular one was showing well young. It was definitely young but showed well enough. Not like St. Julien, leaner and more restrained.

I'm no expert but I remember the 2006 Cote Rotie as being very friendly and delicious as a young wine.

Was the Pavelot 2002? How was that one? That particular vineyard can be a big wine, relatively speaking.

Closed and earthy at first but more generous with air. If I had it, I'd hold it.
And yes, 2002.
Best, Jim

After he works with the new vineyard for a couple of years, the new releases will no longer be drinkable young. I assume. And hope.

Yeah, this one isn't delicious in the same way the 2006 was.

I liked the Pavelot more than Jim and got more fruit out of it, but he's right about holding. I was surprised as I thought it might be more open.

So the difference between "gourmet" and "gourmand"? (still trying to get them straight)

OK I tried the Dirty and Rowdy Especial tonight. Great nose, super tart and acidic mouth. What did you pair this one with?

It was open on the table to pour with whatever one wished; six people and several choices.
Best, Jim
