We went out to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants last night and took some treats with us.
Didier Dagueneau Pouilly Fume 2004- Color is pale green. All gun flint and smoke on the nose at first, followed by lemony/lime chalky flavors. Very solid core. Gripping acidity. Pretty minerality. Decanted. After 15 minutes, the gun flint clears a bit, revealing a beautiful petrichor- like the smell of rain off asphalt(instead of slate). There are hints of wild mushrooms as well, and on the palate, a bit of green melon seems to emerge. The waiter refills the glass, and the gun flint and smoke reemerge. This wine is full of energy. The gun powder subsides, only to show its face again. Wine on viagra? I ordered pan seared scallops with lobster cream sauce and endive and arugula salad with lardons and quail egg with a caesar dressing. The wine showed well with the salad. Not so much with the fatty scallops. I wish I had another bottle to try again in a few years.
Waiter brings a taste of Jovy Pinot Meunier 2007. I expected a floral nose, but was greeted with muted notes. He insisted it was opened that night. Dull flavors of black cherry and muddled spice. Hot finish. Bottled said 14.1%, but it seemed warmer. Not impressed.
Radikon Jakot 2003- Mirky tangerine hue. Color separation on the edges. Floral nose with wild berry and persimmon notes. Hints of dill and tarragon. Flavors of apricot, tangerine, fennel. Round but dry with lip smacking acidity. Like kissing your college sweetheart on a warm fall day. Paired with shrimp and monkfish "piccata" with risotto and tomato and sweet corn relish. Nice pairing, actually.
