Abbreviated notes from birthday wines

re Krug - landsmen!

And I also include the 1988 in the meh camp. I remember Marty L opening a magnum of it at a birthday party about a decade ago.

But many people whose palates I respect like the stuff. It's a mystery to me.

Almost every time I'm served a Krug with some age on it I find it stale and, er, low energy. Other people love 'em.

Krug! will be dropping out of the race anytime now.
establishment Champagne

Interestingly, I had a 10+ year old Grand Cuvée at my parents over the holidays that was way better. Sharper.

That being said, I'm not really that fond of "old Champagne" notes. Just not my thing, with a few noteable exceptions. I find the fetishization of it suspect.

When you say "[drink now or] for the foreseeable future" and "no rush" is that monkey-speak for "next week"? You're not famous for your patience, you know.

That means I have no idea, but I sense the time horizon could be as long as you prefer.

I'll wait at least another year or two (unless the Southern Jeeb happens) until I open one again.

I've always liked Duplessis

Weird; I've never liked Duplessis. Back in the day when fatboy used to be my friend, I would ask him to explain it to me.

What don't you like?

I've had mixed experiences in the past with Duplessis. This bottle was fantastic and I'll be seeking out more.

I hear you on the Ledru Goulte. Love those wines.

Drink soon or hold on the '04 Bourg?

It's so good now that I see no problem dipping in. But it's Bourg, it will go for a good long while. Given my preferences, I'd err on drinking it in the next 7-10 years with a bottle or two as science experiments. The texture was so silky and the fruit so deep.

Many happy returns, Nathan.

The Jeb! of premium champagne ...

What's the feeling on 09 and 10 Grezeaux from 750? I'll try to find mine and report back soon.

I haven't had the 2010 in a while. I had the 2009 a few months ago and it was great.

Out of curiosity, why Charleston?

Why not Charleston!

Sounds like a very thorough celebration. I'm still getting my head around that 5pm and 10pm dinner routine, although am unlikely to put it into practice.

Yes, I too found that unusual...at the same time unsettling, and yet, intriguing.

No breakfast, 5 hours between start times. Second dinner the second night got a bit tough.

Can confirm 09 Les Grezeaux is pretty fabulous right now.

Why the questions about Charleston? A fun place to visit.
Great food, love the shrimp grits.

Oh and happy belated birthday Nathan!
