Does anyone subscribe to the Vinous.com website? Do they have a good reputation? Wasn't there some scandal involving Gallonini, or something?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Josh Raynolds writes for them and I trust his palate.

David Schilknecht theoretically writes for them and I get a kick out of reading his prose.

Steve Tanzer's company was absorbed by Vinous so he writes for them (and that's where they got Josh as well).

I miss being able to read David Schildknecht's stuff. But I will not subscribe to Vinous. What Antonio Galloni does to the English language should be considered a hate crime.

you hate galloni's prose so you let him deprive you of schildknecht's writing?

Actually, it was very funny watching the Tanzer regulars when they first got on the Galloni forum. One of the first posts was titled something like, "Tanzer + 6 points = Galloni?"

while not in the same league as john livingstone (drinkrhone.com) i find them useful for rhone coverage, and now that schildknecht is back on board they will be most useful for germany, austria, and the loire. especially the loire, as it is generally the black hole when it comes to coverage and reviews.

Especially post-SFJ.

But I'm surprised for the enthusiasm about Schildknecht's prose. I find it suffocatingly dense, like hardtack, even if clearly knowledgeable.

I agree. It's like reading Capital if Capital were about wine. You learn a lot but you keep wondering whether the profit is worth the labor.

It is not his prose it is his knowledge and perspective. But i hated the website and never went so i dropped my subscription.

Plus I am spending all my $ on my house and can't afford wine newsletters (except Gilman's).

Besides, I have ready access to the views, knowledge and prose here so what more do I need?

Here's where the lack of emoticons truly comes into play.
