2011 Rougeard Brézé

At dinner last night with Claude K and Zachary R we could not resist starting with 2011 Clos Rougeard Brézé. I don't have much experience with the wine and was excited to see it on the list at a fair price (97euros). The sommelier told us that it might be a bit closed, and maybe it was ever so dense and compact. But there was plenty of pleasure to be had from the beginning and I can only imagine what it tastes like when rocking and rolling.

The oak influence was still there, but not all at oaky. Lovely, elegant, complete and spherical. Not sure if those who have more experience would have found it relative inexpressive, but we were all very happy.

After dinner Zach and I had Cazottes Eau de Vie de Tomates (72 varieties). Interesting stuff, but not sure it tasted like tomatoes! (Which may or may not be a good thing)

I like how it shows young and I like how the oak works in the context of the wine.

I had a 2006 Brézé in February that was gorgeous.

The Brézé was lovely. It was also great to meet up, and to meet Claude. The tomatoes... good!, but not necessarily worth repeating.
