2005 Voillot Champans

I opened a 2005 Joseph Voillot Volnay Champans because I heard both from a real live human and from people on Cellartracker that it had been showing well recently. I also remembered a few lovely firm and focused but still plush and layered bottles of 2005 Voillot Volnay VV from not that long ago.

But, of course all of that 'intelligence' meant nothing, as my bottle of 05 Champans was cranky and did not want to be disturbed. The dark silky fruit was much finer than my memories of the relatively plush Volnay VV. And one could tell that some nice elements were there. But the finish leaned on the acidic shell and the nose never came out to play, even after 5-6 hours of air.

So there you have it.

... sounds like a hold.

That has always been my default 2005 policy, and I don't see how one can go wrong with that approach (at least for the next few decades). But I'm only human and I got curious.

I opened a Potel village Volnay vv this week that was quite good after 5-10 minutes, to my surprise. A bit gross right out of the bottle, though.

Doesn't sound like too much hardship to wait 5-10 minutes!

Great quote
"real live human and from people on Cellartracker"

apparently CellarTracker is the app of choice for zombie wine drinkers

Is that sarcasm? I can't quite tell but I'll give it an 88, anyway.

And, interestingly, the useful distinction between these types comes from one who, back in the day, used to chastise us for differentiating online activity from real life.

He's probably just trying to incubate a little creativity.
