Yes, another France trip for BJ and Mme L. We deserve it, believe me!

We are only in Paris for a few days. We saved pennies and are going to Le Cinq for lunch one day. We want to have a good lunch another couple of days. We had a window to go to Septime, and we discovered it is now so popular that you must get up at 1am Seattle time 21 days before the day you wish to eat to book a reservation - if you wait until you awake, the seats will be gone.

So - what is the latest everyone? Something the NYT hasn't reviewed yet...

BTW, we will then be bike touring down the Loire, and then renting a house on the western Cotentin coast! We catch three days of the Tour!!!!

Everything about that sounds ridiculous, in a city with so many delicious options.

I really liked Amarante - incredible sweetbread, good, reasonably priced wine list (and closed on Wednesday and Thursday).

Brad, dinner at Taillevent was life changing (especially the sweet breads dish).

Can't speak to lunch there.

[EDITED TO ADD] I hear VERY high praise for Relais Auteuil Pignol in general.

. . . . Pete

Septime is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere in the world.

Here are a few alternatives for lunch:

If you do not mind going to the 17th try Gare Au Gorilee, former Septime alums. I thought it was excellent. Beautiful space with a smaller much less expensive menu and a small focused wine list.

Le 6th Bistro Paul Bert

Clown Bar

We are trying to stay within walking distance (which for us is a long way, but in this case maybe a half hour's walk, one mile or so) of the Musee Picasso as we're likely to head there afterwards.

The Mme absolutely hates clowns so that one's out.

Has anyone been to Freddy's?

two of the best meals of my life have been lunch at l'Arpege (with the side benefit that it's much less expensive than dinner though still pricey). And you can stop by the Rodin museum either before or after since it's one block away.

Though I'm afraid it's been reviewed many times.

As a side benefit if you go you can buy a signed copy of the graphic novel.

Robert, did you make it to David Toutain? that might work very well for BJ and Mme L - just inside the 30 min metro to the Musee Picaso. I loved his cooking at Agape Substance (and Arpege before that).

Yes. I have been twice. Like it a lot. The wine list is a bit tough both in terms of selection and markup.

and what of Les Enfants Rouges? only a 6 minute walk from the museum.

We are looking at a Tuesday.

Anyone else notice that when you turn about, say, 47, you suddenly start planning things way, way out in advance in a way that you would never have so done in the past?

This has been my experience.

Les Deserteurs is phenomenal and has a fantastic wine list. One of my two favorites in the city right now (along with Clown Bar). Don't miss it.

Are reservations difficult? I am in Paris the week after next.

Two weeks out should be OK.

Is this still an open question? Google says Le Mary Celeste, wine / oysters/ seafood is still open. Not terribly far from Musee Picasso.

OK, doubling down after a little web-clicking, it has been a little while since I have been there, but it sure seems to fit the Disorderly Bill. 5 minute walk from Musee Picasso.

What does Josh think of this idea/place?
