TN: 2007 Produttori Barbaresco

Still saving old TNs typed on my mobile phone.

29 December 2015 at La Vigna, a couple of wines ordered from the wine list there - at very sane prices!

Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Montefico 2007
Luminescent, medium-deep garnet-red. Fruity-floral, perfumed, medium-plus weight, long, flavorful, complex tannin, medium acidity, a most pretty wine. dp 93

Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Pajé 2007
Deep, almost opaque purple-garnet, watery red at the rim. More density, power and tannin, chewier, firm mid-palate, impressive depth and persistence for the vintage, more concentrated as well as higher-acid. Complex and firm fruit and milk-chocolate. dp 93+/94(+?)

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

Thanks for the hope that these will not need another decade!

I know it's reputed to be an early drinking vintage, but I had 07 Rio Sordo and Pora back in 2013 and felt like there was still fierceness that needed to be calmed.

Maybe this fall/winter I will revisit.

This may be one of those vintages in which the wines don't go through a closed phase, or at least a barely noticeable one. I find it very difficult to predict for wines one hasn't tasted at release/in their primary phase, you'd be a better judge there. I've often wondered what a good rule of thumb would be, but it all depends on the vintage and individual wine. I tend to stay away from lesser wines between the age of 3 to 8 years-old, but of course these aren't exactly "lesser". What I can say is that as well as the Montefico and Pajé were drinking, they were clearly youthful, no apparent signs of evolution (but this was the first and only time I had them).
