Levi, i'd be very interested to hear what you make of 21; i've only been for private events, upstairs; those were not note worthy on the food side, but i think it is unfair to damn the place based on what they serve for dinners for 80-100 peeps.

You are the one who introduced me to so many fantastic wines and spots, and I hope you'll keep true to offbeat good things, rather than fancy for fancy's sake or hipster for hipsters' sake wines and joints.

But don't like those couple of places told about.
 
The "Green Curry" truck at 37th and 7th sells goat curry to die for. And won't break the bank. Won't be there on weekends, though, only weekdays.

For fancy Korean, Jungsik is lovely and has an extensive (if classic) wine list.

Perhaps my favorite restaurant for special occasions (read expensive). Beautiful room, fantastic food and an excellent wine list.

Marea is another that combines delicious food (a little more uneven than Jungsik) with excellent service and a lovely room. Wine list has lots of good options but is pricey.

For more casual eating I'll second Rebelle and Racines

I had the worst roast chicken of my life there about 3 years ago. And I include the rotisserie chicken from Shop Rite in that ranking.

Lunch at Marea is gem; I can't guarantee you'll have A-Rod at the next table as I did last Thursday, but your odds for having a highly successful, gentle but not sepulchral experience are very, very good. And while i agree with Jay that the list runs to big names and big prices, there are good lower priced options tucked in here and there.

Out last visit was also a gold standard for service. I took Arnold there for our anniversary and they brought out an extra dessert for us. Lots of restaurants will do that but they pretty much always bring a chocolate dessert which Arnold doesn't care for.

But here the waitress commented "I was going to bring the chocolate dessert but I noticed you didn't order anything with chocolate and so I thought you might prefer this one". She got a big tip and a compliment written on the bill.
