Stockholm (2016)

Slaton Lipscomb
I don't see a Stockholm thread since 2013, and Kirk's attempt to bump a 2010 thread earlier this year was not successful. So I'm starting a new one!

(PS - Stockholm lurkers, hit me up if you'd like to share a glass of wine. I'm in town starting Friday for five nights)

I'm interested in food, wine and cultural recommendations. I'm staying in a flat in Sødermalm and here's what I'm starting with, thanks to Josh and Otto.

Food:
Speceriet
Food Bar at Mathias Dalhgren
Akkurat for the classics

Wine:
Gaston

Cultural:
Armémuseet (army museum)
Medelhavsmuseet (Mediterranean museum)
Vin och sprithistoriska museet (wine and spirits museum)
Walk around the old city (Gamla stan)

Anyone have new or updated recs to share?

Don't miss the chance to have lunch at the spirits museum. Excellent food and crazy good Wine list.

Glas 19 is also very good.

Franzen is closed so you don't have to worry about that. Lilla Ego is fantastic. As is --in a much more subdued, space between the tables way, Gastrologik. (Speceriet's big brother. )

As I think I mentioned on here, we had a good lunch at Mat Baren. And we skipped flying elk so we could have the burger at Gaston. (All of FE's menu is available at Gaston, plus the burger.

Heard great things about Djuret, but just ran out of time.

Wander around Sodermalm. Lots to explore. I've no doubt you'll have a blast.

I ate at the bar at Matbaren last night. The steak dishes, including the tartar, were very good. I was not so into the wine by the glass selections, although a sparkling Riesling by Don Zsolt from Slovakia was very interesting and enjoyable. If you like digestifs, don't miss the snaps made from horseradish and lemon (snaps pepparrot).

I heard good things about Nook and Volt, but did not have a chance to try them personally.

I'm leaving in a few hours, so I will have just missed you.

I went to Stockholm a few years ago and loved the vibe and food at Rosendals Tradgard. And I would now like to go to Rosenhills Tradgard, having read about it only recently.

First report.

The Spritmuseum exhibits today were amusing enough, but the restaurant was brilliant. Best meal of the trip so far, just fresh summer goodness on a plate (or three). A rosé pet-nat from Daniel Sage in the Ardéche was beautifully fresh and a perfect accompaniment, I will keep my eye out for his wines. Staff was top notch.

Nook last night was tasty enough, if not a standout. Some beautiful salmon sashimi at the start of the meal ended up overshadowing the main events that followed. A Bourgogne-Aligoté from Francois Carillon was thirst quenching on a warm evening.

Enjoyed a walk around the Gamla Stan yesterday, although I quickly learned to avoid the western half which was clogged with tourists and their many trappings. When the souvenir stands outnumber the coffee shops you know you're on the wrong street. The magical find of the afternoon was the Vitabergsparken on the eastern side of Södermalm, a postcard-pretty park with sloping hills wrapped around the Sofia church. It was a great place to be on a sunny Saturday afternoon, and the free outdoor concert wasn't half-bad either.

Gaston on Friday evening was a nice little wine bar. Ulysse Collin 'Les Roises' (2010) was very nice with house made flatbread and cultured butter (which were exceptional). A couple of other dishes ordered were not as memorable, but the staff was excellent.

Two new recs I am going to check out, from one of the Spritmuseum guys:

- Babette, for late night pizza (w/ wood fired oven)
- Tjoget, for wine

Also - thanks Ben! Going to check out Rosendals Trädgård tomorrow, it looks great.
