Sandlands Chenin and oak

don't some wines make a crackling-like noise when you first pour them? if you put your ear up the opening in the glass sometimes you can hear it quite clearly.

I recall that for one of the "warm-ups" to one of Levi's podcasts, there was a short segment on the sounds of various beverages. This was awhile ago now, and my memory is hazy, but I think they recorded the sound of either opening or pouring various alcoholic drinks and then asked someone to guess what the drink was based exclusively on the sound.

A friend of mine posted this to social media recently:

Three bowls do I mix for the temperate: one to health, which they empty first; the second to love and pleasure; the third to sleep. When this bowl is drunk up, wise guests go home. The fourth bowl is ours no longer, but belongs to violence; the fifth to uproar; the sixth to drunken revel; the seventh to black eyes; the eighth is the policeman's; the ninth belongs to biliousness; and the tenth to madness and the hurling of furniture.

Dionysos in Eubulus' play from 375 BC

Great and timeless quote. Re the 10th bowl, I had no idea Keith Richards and Bobby Keys played in classical Athens. Given Keith's appearance, it does seem possible.

Not sure about hearing my wine rustling. Could be downright creepy while relaxing with a glass late at night.
