A couple folks got together at Table, Donkey & Stick to welcome Keith to town. We had a nice mix of food and wine on a beautiful September evening. Some highlights:

2014 l'Anglore Terre d'Ombre - such a charming wine that shows off pure red fruits with touches of spice and earth here and there. nice and zippy, this was a great bottle of mourvedre.

1998 Müller-Catoir Haardter Bürgergarten Spätlese - a wine of incredible presence, this had serious viscosity and intensity. loads of peaches, mangoes, passion fruits, etc. has the flavor of an exotic tropical island cocktail without the sickly sweetness. lots of balance

1990 Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot- i'm pretty sure this was the best wine on the table. tasted incredibly fresh with beautiful red fruits, subtle oak, tones of wet leaves, and spices galore. tasted blind, i think most people would have pegged this as a 5 year old wine.

1990 Domaine Bruno Clair Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers - a qualitative step down from the 1990 Jadot, but still a treat.

2001 Eric Texier Côte-Rôtie Vieilles Vignes - oh boy was this good. i can still smell the aromas of dark fruit, earth, and iodine. the body of the wine was clean and sheer with the beautiful fruit on display. balanced perfectly with the underlying acid. what a treat!

2000 Clos du Jaugueyron Margaux - this was my first time trying this producer. i've generally steered clear of 2000 bordeaux lately (i think they're in a, somewhat, weird place) so it was nice to get to try one. beautiful wine with dark/dense fruit that was, at the same time, airy and clean. great balance...guessing this will age very well.

2000 Dönnhoff Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Auslese Goldkapsel - a great way to end the evening. lots and lots of cherries throughout this wine with zippy acidity. will age a while...has great balance now.

Matt, Jadot came out with some really fine 1990s. Besides the one you mention, his Beaune Clos des Ursules 1er Cru '90 is still drinking marvelously.

And, yes, that Texier VV Cote Rotie '01 is fine.

. . . . Pete

Thanks for the notes Matt, I enjoyed reading this.
I've been drinking the 08 Jaugeuyron Haut Medoc which is drinking well for a young wine and really scratches the itch for a traditional tasting Bordeaux. I'm glad these are available, if a bit hard to find.
I have to splurge now and get a bottle of their Margaux to try.

A 2011 L Anglore Tavel was my favorite rose this summer. A few years of bottle age turned this wonderful wine into something sublime. So silky with great flavor and depth. One of the more memorable wines of the year for me.

The 01 Texier CR sounds like a treat. I love those.

Do you have any trips planned to WA?

I really liked the Anglore. It fulfilled the first duty of a grenache - not tasting like grenache. The white (or whitish) one, whatever it was called, was less remarkable.

The Jaugeuyron was a highlight. That's the type of bottle I'd usually expect to get lost in a crowd like this but it was a really satisfying drink that actually held my interest more than the 1995 Lynch Bages.

Well put.

I have recently ordered a few bottles of A Tribute to Grace and can put this to a test.
Been hearing nice things about her wines and was curious to taste for myself.

Grenache as a stand alone has always been a tough go for me (never tried Rayas, alas), but seems to work well blending with other grapes.

Rayas is the only other grenache I've ever really liked.

I do enjoy some grenache in a blend when used to plump up Rioja, like Prado Enea and Vina Ardanza.
