CRB

I have been meaning to post a query for ages whether anyone has found a decent substitute that scratches the itch for CRB (and especially CRB Cabernet). I haven't yet.

So, anyone had these Julien Pineau wines yet? Intrigued, but David's description makes them sound like a very different kind of thing.

I ordered one of each and was planning to do a tasting this Saturday until I remembered I had other plans.

I'll try again next week.

Well, apparently they're back, a true Lazarus estate. Who would have thought? But will it ever be the same....

Maybe that's a little dramatic, they never died, they just grew tired and gradually transitioned to new, younger owners, as did their friends the Augés.

Well, I remember the email that CSW sent out regarding the final CRB vintage they had for sale and it sounded as if wine from these vines would never be made again in our lifetime. I guess someone threw them a lifeline.

I picked up an assortment of Laurent Saillard's wines the other day, but haven't had a chance to try them yet.

Please report when you do. We all need a little Cot in our life.

Cot is a wine I've always respected more than loved. The CRB Cabernet was the one I loved.
Yeah, that was my favorite as well in the lineup. I liked CRB after '09, but never felt as excited about the wines once they stopped making the Cab.

I recognize that it is not the Cab, but don't all of those grapes go into the Pif now (or didn't they, anyway, until CRB was no more)? The last few vintages of Pif were pretty exciting to me.

The Pif was similar to but not quite the same as the Cabernet. I don't think the last few Pifs had Cabernet Sauvignon, but they did have Cot in them. I always thought the Cabernet Sauvignon was a big part of what made the CRB Cabernet so great.

If I'd known '09 would be the last Cabernet when it came out I'd have bought a lot more than I did :(

I bought 3+ cases pf the 2009 Cot.

L'Arpent Rouge was my favorite and it will be a sad day when I open my last bottle.
No other wine in the world like it.

I also don't recall any Cabernet Sauvignon going into it. I saw that at least some of was going into a rose made by Morantin. Criminal.
