Venice in February

I searched, and read Thor's piece, which was informative, but also from 2010. I'll be there the last week in February, missing, I hope, most if not all the "Best Masked Costume" contests. I do plan to walk and get lost (I still do that in Boston). I hope also to eat and drink reasonably well without breaking the bank. Oh, and I intend to have John Julius Norwich's History of Venice with me at all times. It's great for figuring out which Doge was responsible for which monuments, but not at all timely regarding dining/drinking. All suggestions received gratefully.

Read as much of Ruskin's "The Stones of Venice" as you are able.

You took the word out of my mouth. I'm glad to see people still do this.

This place:

gets such consistently great reviews from people I trust that I bookmarked the WWW even though I have no plans for a return visit to la serenissima.

There's a closed Facebook community called "In vino Triple A veritas...." where the folks probably have a few natural wine-oriented suggestions.

I'm late to this thread, and new to this forum, but I feel compelled to put in a good word for Estro ( http://www.estrovenezia.com/ ), which is far and away my favorite place to drink in Venice. Natural wines, orange wines, oddities. Good food and great wines. And a hint: even if they don't have something open for by-the-glass serving, if you're going to order a couple glasses of it, they'll open anything in the shop for you.

Also good for wine and cicchetti would be the El Sbarlefo shops (two locations), and I'll second the recommendation from the wineberserkers thread for Cantine del Vino gia Schiavi, though it was awfully crowded when I visited.
