I take it you didn't do a search on WD, but . . . WD London Recs does have many suggestions.

In addition to the previous post:

Luca is the new Italian place from Clove Club.

Petit Pois is a newish French bistro from the Happiness Forgets crew (and conveniently located directly upstairs).

Frenchie is great.

40 Maltby Street and Six Portland Road both have some bistro influence for their cooking and a convivial vibe. I haven't been to Brawn but that might also.

I think the "neo-bistro" moniker would apply pretty well to Brawn. I'd also add Primeur and Rubedo to that list - the latter leaning more Italian.

yes, there's plenty of stuff there but it is all from 2014 and i was there just a year ago so looking for very fresh ideas. i've already got resers at frenchies, and have the 2017 michelin red guide but, knowing that off their beaten path is perhaps where the real fun lies, put up this query here. thanks all very much for the replies, as there is much that is not in the guide rouge.

Frenchie is amazing; we were there last night, got an early reservation (first night across the pond) and the place was hopping. The tasting menu was fantastic (salsify pasta and the mont blanc dessert stand out among the four plates plus a few amuse-bouche).

One of the better meals I have had out in quite a while.

.

Let me just chime in that dinner on Monday (10/15/18) at Luca was magnificent in every regard. Decor, welcome, service, food and wine service. Ate and drank more and bettter than at Frenchie (the night before) and it was about 10-12% cheaper. (Although, clearly neither is “cheap” ) there was so much good stuff to choose from on the list. We went French for bubbles ( Prévost BdN ‘13) and Italian for the rest. (Bini ‘14 zibibbo secco, which was its zingy zesty glorious self and ‘15 COS pithos rosso, which was not hot at all. It’s normal mid-weight minerally and fruity self. Open and delicious, especially with their braised ox cheek.) I’m not a huge fan of London, but I can’t think of a currently open Italian resto in NYC of SF that compares favorably.
