And of course, unlike Senator Warren, I was wrong. I wanted to check in on 2006 Bachelet Gevrey Chambertin Les Corbeaux; Maureen suggested that it was not likely to be a pleasant encounter. I tried anyway, and Maureen was right. Not charming. Astringent with no hint of future generousity. Obviously too young for Bachelet Corbeaux, but one drinker, an Oregon wine maker of considerable talent and very little BS, offered doubts as to whether the fruit will survive to the time when the wine might otherwise be pleasant to drink. I'll try again in 3 or 4 years.
On the other hand, the 2001 Lucie & Auguste Lignier Clos de la Roche was spectacular. Many years of development ahead to be sure, but very enjoyable right now. All pistons firing in excellent syncronicity. (This is the domaine owned by Kellen Lignier, the American widow of Romain Lignier; i know she came on hard time in the '09 vintage, but don't know she ultimately sold her estate's vineyard holdings back to her late husband's family (who were reported to be very angry that she inherited portions of the vineyards when Romain died so sadly and so young). Does any one here recall?)
