Bethesda... again

Yeah, what would folks suggest I bring? Chateauneuf I can do, but also Nebbiolo, dry Riesling, Chablis and anything Loire-ish. Thoughts?

Bring what you love.

I'm thinking MSR. Or will that bore Jonathan?

Let me put this another way: if anyone knows what they're bringing, I'd like to hear so that I can judge what I might bring to complement/provide interesting comparisons. At my last DC gig, the MSD comparison was fascinating, if a bit depressing (Jouan/Roumier/Truchot).

Why depressing? Many flaws?

MSR (in this case) means Mosel Riesling, lest there be any ambiguity.

I might bring a ringer, too, for fun.

Glassware?

Unfortunatley, I'm still snowed under with the flu as of this evening, but hoping to be well by Tuesday.

I was thinking I might bring 1992 Peter Lauer Sekt Reserve and then perhaps a 2007 Simon Bize SLB Les Fournaux. But I can also switch either one out for something else if you had any ideas in mind. I have good stuff from the Loire, Jura, and Savoie at home. And other Burgundy. And also some Sandlands and Ceritas.

Hope you get better, Ian, but I'm happy to jeeb with you even if you are still under the weather (and drinking nothing but NyQuil)

Yikes. Not me, I love you, but stay home, Typhoid Mary!

I will bring a Mourre de Tendre, either 99 or 01 or whatever I can dig up. Since others are bringing Burgundy and whites, for a second bottle, I'll either bring a bordeaux from the 90s or a Loire red like maybe an Olga.

Yes, I like them a lot. They are a growing proportion of my cellar. A wide range of people seem to enjoy them, from complete noobs to experienced geeks. That makes the wines especially valuable to me, as a lot of what I buy and drink is not only not appreciated, but also not actually enjoyed, by some of my non-geek friends and family.

Maureen, speaking as an infectious disease researcher, I can tell you that the period of greatest danger for rhinovirus and influenza infections is fairly early on, in the first 3-4 days typically. In the later stages of infection, when it's mostly coughing up phlegm (sorry for the graphic detail), the risks of infection are quite low unless you're immunocompromised. It's mostly just a case of personal misery for the infected person then. Just sayin'
