the aged and the new

The highest accolade for a wine in my house is my spouse proclaiming the wine delicious. This past weekend my wife and I brought a bunch of wine home from our storage facility across the bay. One of the bottles we drank was a 2010 La Clarine sumu kaw syrah. My wife swirled, sipped, sighed and stated “This is delicious.” And it was. There was a lovely violent nose, and the tannins were tame. I wish I had more. Speaking of syrah, we also enjoyed one of Steve Edmunds’ library 2000 Wylie Fenaughty. All I can say about that wine is that I’m glad I have more. If you can find some, I encourage you to try the 2015 Domaine de Colette Fleurie, imported by Charles Neal. This is an incredibly joyous, happy wine. The nose alone is well worth the $18.95 price tag. I have been through several of these bottles and it is a “glug, glug, glug, smile” experience.

Best,

Brad

Brad, I understand all too well. In our house, the spousal refrain is "We have to get more of this wine!" which is usually reserved for dry Chenin blancs, Pinot blancs and certain expressions of Gamay. Most recently, however, I heard it in response to a bottle of 2014 Pieropan Soave Classico which was a very fine expression of Garganega.

Yup. I've previously tried her on both the Calvarino and the La Rocca, but this one was the one that got her attention. Go figger.
