Texier Wine

Thanks Jeff. She had a good life full of wine, fois gras, cassoulet and love!!!

@Oswaldo. Some place in Ardeche were hit, but not St Julien. I am still worrying for Brézème since the middle of next week should be chilly and wet. Die (Clairette), which not far, was badly hit on thursday.

... after 6 vintages, we discovered that these serine are probably not serine... but something even rarer. Still waiting for DNA identification!

C'mon. Now I have to retract my "little sirah berries" stories to my non-geek friends and the cognoscenti is made to look the fool.

I pulled Texier Cotes du Rhone Adele Blanc '14.

It's 80% Clairette, 20% Marsanne

Clairette is a light-colored grape variety that grows throughout southern France. It was once widespread, but changing tastes and fashions since the 18th and 19th centuries have seen this grape replaced with higher-quality varieties. However, there are still a few Clairette strongholds in the Rhone Valley and in Languedoc, where it makes fresh, sparkling wines and light, easy-drinking still wines.

A lovely wine that paired nicely with sauteed catfish, crispy brussel sprouts, and cole slaw, then Robiola Bosina and pear.

A couple nights ago I opened Eric Texier 2014 Cotes-du-Rhone, Saint-Julien-en-Saint-Alban. Who knew that the 750ml size was a single serving? Just beautiful, silky, earthy, crisp. I stopped by the shop today to grab a couple more bottles before posting. (One never knows with this crowd.)

For me, it was a bottle of the 2010 Eric Texier Côtes du Rhône Villages Vaison La Romaine which was deliciously ready and a great pairing with ribs and greens. If only more CdR wines were this food-friendly.

I started to pull a Pinot to go with poached salmon but instead opened Texier Chat Fou '14 thinking its soft profile would work well. It turned out to be an excellent choice with poached salmon and butter beans/leeks/burrata, then blondies.

Definitely a delicious and versatile...and fun...wine.
