Pulled a Maurice Ecard Savigny les Beaune les Narbantons '99 last night to go with roast duck and zucchini, then oatmeal cookies. Solid red color, nice full fragrance, solid core of fruit, tannins mostly in abeyance, no edges to be found, in a word "delicious". Alas, my last bottle, I say alas as this wine probably won't improve much (if any) but won't be fading anytime soon either.
This got me to reminiscing. I bought a bunch of these Ecard SLBs starting back in the '90s from N Berkeley Wines acting upon the recommendation of, I believe, David Hinkle. I bought most years until Maurice retired. These wines were never expensive but have been without exception a wonderful delight for years.
This is one of the better strings of wines I have benefited from over the years.
