Oswaldo Costa

Oswaldo Costa
It feels like all the greats are going. Never met him in person, but his wit kept this place bouncing, even when he was on hiatus. How very, very sad.

I was going to wait to talk to Lisa again in the morning about starting a thread here, but since you started the thread...

Lisa contacted me earlier in the evening to tell me the devastating news that Chris suffered a heart attack and died earlier in the day. Just heartbroken.

This is awful news. I only met him a couple of times at winetastings. But I always loved his contributions here. My condolences to Lisa. I will miss him.

Still in shock at the news. At a loss for words.

Chris - we'll miss you.

No words at all. Just devastating. My heart is broken for Lisa. We've lost almost all of our founders here.

I only knew Chris online, but my life was better for his virtual presence in it and I can only imagine the profound impact he had on his close friends and family, to whom I offer my deepest condolences. He will live forever through his brilliant writing. What I remember best from his accounts of wine dinners are his descriptions of the people, not his notes on the wines (as commendable as they were). I've always been amazed by his gift for bringing people to life in just a sentence or two, and I will miss that and his wry wit.

As I wrote elsewhere, the world has become a duller place.

Staggering loss. I spent many a night at Crush walking laps in that store talking, tasting and laughing with Chris. He worked near Crush for a period and came in 2-3 times a month for a few years when we opened. He will be missed.

Many of you were much closer to him than I was, so I can only imagine what you feel.

He always had a special place in my heart because it was through him that I learned about the concept of the wine internet. I was living in Tours, summer 2002, googling on the web trying to make sense of local offerings like Puzelat.

I came across Compleat Wine Geek and a whole world opened.

His ability to expand the mind will continue.
