Mark, Your comment resonates with me. I used to say that Cote Rotie was one of my favorite types of wine but I have pretty much lost interest as the price rapport and character seemed to dwindle.

What's the straight skinny about Cote Rotie these days?

hi Pete,
i don't know a lot about CR except for the general sense that you have.
bygone days actually refers more to fact that Brad refuses to come out west! and that i'm real old and old people always talk about the good ol' days....

Yes, and, of course, health issues!

I hope there is some commentary here on what has happened with the Cote Rotie brands.

There are some excellent wines from Côte-Rôtie these days, what with Jamet, Levet, Bénetière, Barge, Texier, Gallet, and others holding it down. Plenty to choose from.

I had a 2010 Guigal Brune et Blonde last night that was very nice, ripe but well supported by acidity and fine tannin and with plenty of the savory smoked pork and pepper that distinguish Cote-Rotie. It has been a long time since I've had a drinkable young Guigal, much less a very good one, so it was a thrilling surprise.

What Zachary said. There are a number of producers, some new, making non-Guigaluzed CR, pricing, however, is another story.

Xavier Gerard, Bernard Burgaud, Georges Vernay, Philippe Faury, Rene Rostaing,

Hermitage is the dead appellation these days, not Cote Rotie.

Not so sure about this. There are numerous good things happening throughout the northern Rhone. Unfortunately, they are pricing themselves marvelously as well.
