The almond crop is fraught with peril from start to finish. An insider in the migratory pollination business reported to me that a mutual friend of ours had an entire semi of bees stolen when the driver went to use the rest room at a truck stop just a few miles away from his destination. It takes an organized and well planned operation to steal and deal with a semi load of bees. Beyond the bees themselves, at that time and location, a semi load of bees can be worth many tens of thousands of dollars.
