2006 Giuseppe Rinaldi Barbera d'Alba
Seems to be a rarity as only one store carries it. Regardless, at 28 bucks I think this is a fair deal.
Needed 2-3 hours to show notes of plums, violets and dark chocolate pound cake. Very nicely balanced with decent tannins, good acidity and a very long finish that brings up metallic/mineral notes. Went well with pizza. On the second night though the metallic notes took over the fruit, but still OK.
Anyone tried the 06 Barbera Cascina Francia?
A few shorter notes
1997 Lungarotti Rubesco Vigna Monticchio Riserva - at 10 bucks this was a deal. Not terribly complex but I enjoyed it. Cherry liqueur was all I got but the wine was nicely balanced.
1995 Montevertine Il Sodaccio - as some of you already mentioned this was delicious. Opened up with notes that reminded me of the 02 Ciampolo - eggshells, twigs and rosehip jam. Absolutely loved it. Has lost of sediment so decanting is recommended.
