2011 Texier Brézème VS

Rahsaan

Rahsaan
Anyone else drinking this recently? Opened a bottle last night for guests and found lovely perfume and a surprisingly-resolved (at least to me) texture. That said, while nothing was sticking out, it was also fairly thin and not packing any of the layered complexity I remember from the 06 and 07 at a similar age.

Random bottle showing? Should I be waiting longer? Drinking the rest of my '11s now? (And '10s while I'm at it?)

I always found the 2011 silky and more forward than the 2010. I think that in the early years, I find Brézème difficult to predict. I have a personal theory that it is because it is a vineyard with a heavy limestone influence so the wines tend to bounce around more than a syrah from granite that takes a more linear path.

The 2007 was a silky, rich, early maturing outlier for this wine, I think. I'm all out (and didn't buy enough to begin with) so I can't check in again. The 2006, which I have a couple more bottles of, was more like how you describe the 2011.

I haven't had it in a while and if memory serves correct the nose was much more straightened out than the palate, again as you report. my bottles will sit for a few more years, I think, before I tap into them. Hopefully, Eric can chime in.

Inventory says I have more bottles of 2009 than 2006, maybe it's time to check on that wine.

Is VS Vieille Serine. Just looked and I have a stash of the 07. I'll open one soon and report back.

Nathan, can toss you a bottle if you're up this way.

I always found the 2011 silky and more froward than the 10.

Is this a typo for "forward," or do you find the wine both silky and difficult to deal with?

Froward is merely the opposite of toward.

Indeed, so says the OED. But only if you have a fondness for obsolete meanings.

Must be the origin of "to and fro" (i.e., the obsolete generating the current).

Yes, both fro and froward come from the Norse "fra," or away from. At least so says Google. I am always skeptical of etymologies, though, as they so frequently turn out to be wrong, all of them being speculative.
