void

I think the solution is for these Southern shops to stop using French-inspired names with the word cave. Same problem when we lost Cave Taureau in Durham!

The problem is population density and that while people might go to the farmers market, they are perfectly happy drinking garbage from Whole Foods and telling themselves that it is good.

True. And I don't really get it. Folks I know who buy only organic vegetables at the Farmers' Mkt buy their wine from TJs! This would not be the case to the same extent in the Bay Area (although there is only a tiny fraction of the population that drinks good wine - and as we all know there are only very few excellent producers within any given appellation.)

How about Lee and Jackson wine purveyors?

Don't know them. VLM, Rahsaan and I are all in the NC Triangle. There is a retail vacuum here since Cave Taureau closed.

Sorry; obnoxious comment on my part. I spend a lot of time in Charlottesville and am still suffering some PTSD from the recent debacle there.

Le Caveau's closure has left a similar vacuum here in Atlanta. There is a store that seems to be picking up some of the wines Le Caveau carried, but it is in Midtown which is pretty much inaccessible in the evening from where I work (routinely 45 minutes to travel maybe 5 miles as the crow flies), while Le Caveau was on my way home and 5 minutes from my house. I miss Le Caveau immensely, but its closure has saved me a lot of money.

of which establishment do you speak, Mike?

Perrine seems to have picked up some of the wines Eric was carrying based on the e-mail blasts I've gotten from her, and actually had an LDM in store event shortly after Eric closed, though I've never actually been in the store so I don't know how extensively she has picked up the mantle.
